Finn beats canadian in Ice cross 27.01.2008
QUEBEC (Canada) The 26 year old Finn Arttu Phlainen closed off the 10th edition of the" red bull crashed ice ".with his victory on Saturday night in Quebec, Canada. 85000 viewers were witness to this down-hill race on the 600 meter long route accessorized with jumps and steep curves through the historical town of Quebec. Canada vs Skandinavia was also the theme during the 10th "crashed ice" in the city by the St,Lorenz River.
During this "first,real new athletic disclipine of the millenium"(the independent,london*). four atheletes in ice hockey apparrell must tackle the ice route as quickly as possible. The fastest 2 continue to the next round. The discipline was invented by two austrians in 2000. Since then tens of thousands viewers storm the races amongst others in Stockholm, Moskau, Prag, Helsinki and Minnesota. During the down-down race in Quebec, to which more then 1000 national althetes lined up during regionals to compete, the 5 times champion Jasper Felder of Sweden was eliminated during the semifinal. Winner of the previous year Kevin Olsen had only made it to the quarter finals. Winner Pihlainen pushed through and won against the canadians Louis-philippe Dumoulin, Sebastian Morisette and Brandon Masksymym. The Czech Lukas Fiala won the little final and placed 5th.
The next "red bull crashed ice" will take place on February 5th in Davos, Switzerland. One of the highlights of this race is that one of the routes go right through a chalet.
